An interim summary of the Foundation for the Future conference convened in February 2025 at the House of Lords and Civitas HQ. The conference was an opportunity for the all-too-often-silenced voice of mothers to be heard. It was a chance to explore the valuable role parents play in society when they care for and raise the next generation.

We are raising concerns over the unintended consequences of childcare policies in Finland and Denmark and warning that the UK is heading in a similar direction.

Maria has reviewed 40 academic studies on universal childcare and finds a worrying lack of evidence on its supposed benefits. Universal childcare is frequently claimed to give every child the ‘best start in life’ but is this really the case?
